NEW YEAR.... Same us! Let's get you ready for the newness ahead!
Kick Off the New Year With a Focus on TIRES!
We’re excited to announce that American Import Auto now provides tire services! Whether you’re dealing with a pesky nail, an air leak, or simply need a new set, we’ve got you covered. We’ll diagnose the issue and let you know if it’s repairable or if a replacement is necessary.
Why Your Tire’s DOT Serial Number Matters
Did you know the DOT serial number on your tire tells you everything you need to know about its safety? Located on the inside wall of the tire, this number—8 to 13 characters long—confirms that the tire meets U.S. Department of Transportation safety standards. Most importantly, it reveals:
- Where the tire was manufactured
- The size and manufacturer’s code
- The week and year it was made
Tires older than 6 years are considered outdated and unsafe! Check out the photos below:
- Bad tires: Manufactured in Week 41 of 2002—completely cracked, worn, and dangerous.
- Good tires: Manufactured in Week 1 of 2019—safe and road-ready!
When reading the DOT number, focus on the week and year. Always aim for tires that are less than 2 years old, ideally within 12 to 18 months of production. Don’t fall for “bargains” offering older tires—those deals may not be as beneficial as they seem!
